Tutorial 5 - Document Templates

This project pursues the morphology of a structural tiling system that is parametrically defined by the curvature of the surface and the distribution of the tiles.

The determinant factors for tile assemblies lies within the parametric model of the structural system, the distance between the ribs set as tile width, length, thickness and the location of the attachment point.

The second sub-system is the attachment surface onto which the tiles are fixed. Its purpose is to keep the tiles in place while allowing surface curvature to emerge from the articulation of each tile and the way it touches neighbouring tiles. The attachment surface is therefore made from a relatively elastic material - a flat surface formed of strips - that accommodates the emergent surface curvature as the system is assembled tile by tile.

The surface is defined by three sections and one spline, and then intersected by 20 planes that normal to it's spline. The operation generate 20 strips for the tiles to be attached to.

Each strip is divided by 16 points that share equal distance.

define a plane through the lower three points and project the upper point on to the plane, then draw a quadrangle and make a pad.
make the other tiles using powercopy then make a document template.

filled the other strips with tiles using document template.

The shape of the surface can be change by modifying the sketches that define it's section
